Work Report. Saturday 24th January. By Terry Deacon and Ian Robins.
Terry has sent in some pictures below on progress for D9526's new engine amongst other things. -D9526's replacement engine( aquired from Inverlane )show's the repaired and re-machined drive coupling for class 14's Plessy oil pump/cooling system now fitted to the crankshaft. This Paxman engine was used in a type 74 B R locomotive so the cooling fan was electrically driven not hydraulic as class 14's Next project is to clean and inspect the 6 cylinder heads to see if they can be made good/overhauled for the refurbished engine. -A major shunt took place at Williton Saturday to bring 33057 into use for a ballast turn on Sunday. -DH 16 and D9526 ( with her "winter" bonnet on)stand outside the Tarmac shed Williton during the yard shunt.
Ian writes:-
D7018 – More pipe work painting and further testing of the Fuel Lift Pump was undertaken. The two Fuel Tank Gauges have returned from overhaul by Bayham Ltd, the original manufacturer, and look very smart.
D832 – Neil continued fitting new labels around the loco to replace ones that were pilfered, damaged or lost many years ago.
D6575 – After the loco was used for a major shunt of the yard on Saturday, Dave L changed the turbo inlet air filter material. On Sunday, the loco ran with a single ballast wagon to the triangle site at Norton Fitzwarren and collected four further wagons. Having formed the train, the loco than proceeded to Dene Bridge between NF and Bishops Lydeard where the wagons were loaded with previously dumped ballast. Once filled, the train then ran to Williton where the ballast will be used in the on-going relay at Doniford.
