D9518 update from Terry
The frames and wheels from 9518 have moved to the WSRA Tarmac shed for work to be carried out. Simon was busy removing drive rods and noting corresponding allocation numbers of rods and holding nuts. Whilst I drilled holes through the buffer beams to allow for the fitting of additional air piping connections in the future. The next step will be to lift the chassis off it's wheels.
Class 33 Update from Ian.
D6566 – On Saturday, I changed the remaining six solid construction injector leak-off pipes for flexible hoses. This is a modification introduced on many Class 47s and is believed to reduce the risk of fuel dilution in the oil caused by cracking of the solid pipes. In fact the old pipe removed from No.7 position was found to be cracked. On Sunday the loco worked the 11:15 ex BL and 15:15 ex MD return, 1940s style!
D9518 - The frames are now resident in the Swindon Shed and on Saturday Simon and gang removed the side rods in preparation for the wheelsets to be removed for tyre turning. The Cab is still in the Goods Shed and on Sunday Dave was busy fitting the new cab floor insulation pockets.
